Dr John Clyde Binns was a dearly loved family doctor who served the Naremburn community for an extended period. He was born in Sydney as the fourth son of Christopher John and Susan Maria Binns (nee Kimpton).
Following graduation from the University of Sydney in medicine, John Clyde married Millicent Frances, who was known in the Naremburn area as a very keen gardener. The family home and surgery was located in the fine home Banba, located on the corner of Willoughby and Donnelly Roads, Naremburn. Banba had been built about 1899 by the Dalton family who also owned Wheatleigh a few doors away.
Dr Binns also had another surgery on the corner of High Street and Mowbray Road, Willoughby. He regularly opened his surgery after hours for his patients. When Dr. Binns made a home visit to her, a friend’s grandmother used to serve him scones while he nursed the family’s Persian cat.
John’s beloved wife, Millicent, predeceased him. They had no children. Dr Binns died in Chatswood in 1954 aged 60.
