“Michelle’s talk covers the history of the Northern Beaches from its early Aboriginal heritage through to the new B-Line bus service and Northern Beaches Hospital . It looks at key events and people that have shaped its development”.

“Michelle Richmond is a public historian with 25 years experience. For the past 8 years she has been the Historian at the Northern Beaches Library and prior to this she worked as the historian for several large Heritage firms in Sydney.”

Join us as Jo Harris talks on family history methodology. She will relate this to specific research she has completed which were specially satisfactory on many levels.

Jo was the co-ordinator of the Kur-ing-gai Historical Society family history unit for many years.

Re-opened

Our Museum at 58 Johnson Street, Chatswood has re-opened for 2023. We are open from 1 – 4 PM on Sundays.

The Museum contains a variety of displays from the local area including:

  • Royal Dalton pottery from the old Coroma factory in Victoria Avenue
  • Reproductions of the kitchen and laundry of our Federation House
  • Coachbuilding using timber, iron and leather
  • Details of some of the last tanneries in Sydney
  • Relics from radio and television production (the North Shore once housed Sydney’s transmission towers
  • Temporary exhibition on the schools of Willoughby
  • Products made in Willoughby such as Tarzan’s Grip, “Meccano” knock-off and Speedo garments
